UPDATE: Overwinning – Rechter fluit gemeente Amsterdam terug na verbod op protest bij Concertgebouw  

AMSTERDAM, 12 DECEMBER 2025 – De rechtbank in Amsterdam heeft vandaag bepaald dat anti-genocide demonstranten bij de ingang van het Concertgebouw mogen protesteren tegen het optreden van luitenant-kolonel Shai Abramson, de hoofdcantor van het Israëlische leger. Hiermee heeft de rechtbank het besluit van burgemeester Halsema om het protest te verplaatsen naar de Amerikaanse ambassade aan het Museumplein vernietigd.  

Onder de naam “Geef genocide geen podium” hebben XR Justice Now!, de Amsterdam Palestina Coalitie en andere actiegroepen aangekondigd dat ze zullen demonstreren tegen het geplande optreden van Shai Abramson in het Concertgebouw op zondag 14 december. Abramson is een luitenant-kolonel en reservist die tijdens de genocide van Israël in Gaza heeft gediend en die tot op heden als cantor officieel het Israëlische leger vertegenwoordigt. Uit documentatie blijkt dat Abramsons gebeden voor soldaten in Gaza heeft gezongen als onderdeel van zijn rol om hun moreel te versterken, terwijl ditzelfde leger genocide pleegt op de Palestijnen in Gaza. Daarnaast is Abramson zichtbaar in content waarin de verwoesting van Gaza verheerlijkt wordt. Desondanks heeft de gemeente Amsterdam ervoor gekozen om hem te faciliteren.  

Advocaat Willem Jebbink van Jebbink Soeteman Advocaten, die de demonstranten bijstond met steun van het European Legal Support Center (ELSC), verklaarde: “De rechter heeft met zijn uitspraak recht gedaan aan het belangrijke principe dat een demonstratie binnen zicht en gehoor van het doelwit moet kunnen plaatsvinden. De plek die de burgemeester had toegewezen, was te ver verwijderd van het Concertgebouw.” 

Zamzam Al-Baz, legal officer voor Nederland bij het ELSC, voegde hieraan toe: “Dit is een belangrijke overwinning voor de beweging. Deze uitspraak laat zien dat we ons moeten verzetten tegen repressie en dat we kunnen winnen. Protesteren tegen welk lid van het Israëlische leger dan ook, een leger dat genocide pleegt in Gaza, is een basisrecht en een plicht voor ieder rationeel mens.”

UPDATE: Victory – Judge overrules Amsterdam Municipality’s Ban on Protest at Concert Hall 

AMSTERDAM, 12 DECEMBER 2025 – The Amsterdam court has ruled today that anti-genocide protestors are allowed to protest at the entrance of the Concertgebouw against the platforming of Lieutenant Colonel Shai Abramson, the Chief Cantor of the Israeli army. With this, the court overruled the ban imposed by mayor Femke Halsema. 

Under the name “Don’t give genocide a platform”, XR Justice Now!, the Amsterdam Palestina Coalition, and other action groups announced they will demonstrate against the scheduled performance of Shai Abramson at the Concertgebouw this Sunday, December 14. Despite Abramson’s role as a Lieutenant Colonel and reservist who served during Israel’s genocide in Gaza, officially representing the Israeli military, who has been documented chanting prayers for soldiers in Gaza as part of his role to bolster their morale while committing genocide and who has produced content featuring Gaza’s devastation, the Amsterdam Municipality has still chosen to facilitate this a member of an army committing a genocide.  

The court overturned Mayor Halsema’s decision to relocate the protest to the American Embassy at Museumplein. 

Lawyer Willem Jebbink from Jebbink Soeteman Advocaten, who represented the demonstrators with support from the European Legal Support Center (ELSC), stated: “With his ruling, the judge upheld the important principle that a demonstration must be able to take place within sight and earshot of the target. The location assigned by the mayor was too far away from the Concertgebouw.” 

Zamzam Al-Baz, legal officer for the Netherlands at the ELSC added: “This is an important victory for the movement. This ruling shows that we should always fight back against repression and that we can win. Protesting any member of the Israeli army who is committing a genocide in Gaza is a basic right and duty for any decent human being.”

Kort geding aangespannen tegen Amsterdams verbod op protest bij Concertgebouw dat Israëlische oorlogsmisdadiger een podium biedt

Vertegenwoordigd door advocaat Willem Jebbink en ondersteund door het European Legal Support Center (ELSC), heeft XR Justice Now! een kort geding aangespannen bij de bestuursrechter in Amsterdam om het verbod aan te vechten op protesten voor het Concertgebouw in Amsterdam tegen het optreden van luitenant-kolonel Shai Abramson, de hoofdcantor van het Israëlische leger dat een genocide pleegt tegen het Palestijnse volk in Gaza. De zitting staat gepland op vrijdag 12 december om 13.30 uur.

Bovendien kiest zij er bewust voor om haar eigen inwoners in gevaar te brengen in plaats van hen te beschermen tegen het gevaar van het toelaten van leden van het Israëlische leger, die de meest barbaarse misdaden hebben begaan, in hun stad. De gemeente heeft XR Justice Now! zelfs laten weten dat zij elke demonstratie voor het Concertgebouw tijdens het concert verbiedt, wat een duidelijke schending is van het recht op vrijheid van vergadering en meningsuiting. 

Halsema kiest opnieuw voor zionistische criminelen in plaats van haar eigen burgers  

XR Justice Now! benadrukt dat de door de gemeente voorgestelde alternatieve locatie, namelijk het Museumplein, aan de overkant van de drukke Van Baerlestraat, ver van het Concertgebouw, wordt beschouwd als een poging om de impact van het protest te marginaliseren en het zinloos te maken. Hiermee doet het optreden van burgemeester Femke Halsema denken aan november 2024, toen zij in samenwerking met de Amsterdamse politie Zionistische hooligans hun gang liet gaan om burgers van Amsterdam te terroriseren. Ze bracht hiermee de veiligheid van haar burgers in gevaar en tastte ook nog hun recht op vrijheid van vergadering en meningsuiting aan.  

Woordvoerder Mark Van der Hout van XR Justice Now! zegt: “We hebben het recht om te demonstreren bij het Concertgebouw en we gaan voor dit recht vechten. Het is onaanvaardbaar om een vertegenwoordiger van het genocidale Israëlische leger een podium te geven. Dit normaliseert genocide onder het mom van cultuur. Dit is geen juridische of politieke kwestie, het is in wezen een morele kwestie die aan de hele Nederlandse samenleving wordt voorgelegd. We willen onze bezwaren kunnen uiten en deze zichtbaar en impactvol maken. Dat is meestal het doel van een protest. De stoep voor het Concertgebouw is een openbare en vrij toegankelijke plek en we staan erop daar te protesteren.” 

Laura Bakker van de Amsterdam Palestina Coaltie voegt toe: “Het echte schandaal is dat Shai hier wordt binnengehaald, maar protest daartegen wordt verboden. Een stad die CIDI laat bepalen wie spreekt en wie zwijgt, faalt zijn eigen waarden.” 

Zamzam Al-Baz, juridisch medewerker bij het ELSC, concludeert: “Deze kwestie gaat verder dan één geïsoleerd protest. In wezen gaat het om de verdediging van de solidariteitsbeweging tegen systematische pogingen om haar het zwijgen op te leggen en te marginaliseren, om oorlogsmisdadigers te beschermen. Niemand zou voor de rechter moeten vechten voor het recht om een moreel standpunt in te nemen, om te weigeren dat diens stad een platform wordt voor degenen die genocide plegen.” 

Het optreden van de Chief Military Cantor werd vorige maand geannuleerd, maar na tussenkomst en druk van het Israëlische ministerie van Diaspora-zaken en zionistische lobbygroepen in Nederland werd zijn optreden weer hersteld. Dit is wederom een voorbeeld van hoe zionistische lobbygroepen zich mengen in Europese interne aangelegenheden.

Legal Challenge Filed Against Amsterdam’s Ban on Protest at Concert Hall Platforming Israeli Army Colonel – Court Case Today at 13.30

AMSTERDAM, 12 DECEMBER 2025 – Represented by lawyer Willem Jebbink with the support of the European Legal Support Center (ELSC), XR Justice Now! has submitted an injunction before the Administrative Court in Amsterdam to challenge the ban imposed on protests in front of Amsterdam’s Concertgebouw against hosting a performance by the Lieutenant Colonel, Shai Abramson, the Chief Cantor of the Israeli Army currently committing an ongoing genocide against the Palestinian people in Gaza. The court hearing is scheduled for Friday, December 12 at 13.30 hours. 

Under the name “Don’t give genocide a platform”, XR Justice Now!, the Amsterdam Palestina Coalition, and other action groups have announced they will demonstrate against the scheduled performance of Shai Abramson at the Concertgebouw this Sunday, December 14. 

Despite Abramson’s role as a Lieutenant Colonel and reservist who served during Israel’s genocide in Gaza, officially representing the Israeli military, who has been documented chanting prayers for soldiers in Gaza as part of his role to bolster their morale while commiting genocide and who has produced content featuring Gaza’s devastation, the Amsterdam Municipality has still chosen to facilitate this member of an army committing a genocide.  

By doing so, it is enabling war criminals to evade accountability for atrocities, aligning itself with the actions of the Israeli military and, as a result, remaining complicit in the genocide. Furthermore, it has deliberately chosen to put its own residents at risk rather than protecting them from the danger of allowing members of the Israeli army, who committed the most barbaric crimes, into their city. In fact, it has informed XR Justice Now! that it bans any demonstration in front of the Concert Hall during the concert in a clear assault on the right to freedom of assembly and expression. 

Halsema again chooses Zionist criminals over own citizens 

XR Justice Now! insists that the alternative location proposed by the Municipality, namely the Museumplein, across the busy Van Baerlestraat far from the Concert Hall, is considered an attempt to marginalise the impact of the protest and render it void. With this, mayor Femke Halsema’s actions are reminiscent of those from November 2024 when she, in collaboration with the Amsterdam police, allowed Zionist hooligans to terrorise citizens of Amsterdam, jeopardised the safety of her citizens, and attacked their right to freedom of assembly and expression. 

Spokesperson Mark Van der Hout from XR Justice Now! commented: “We have the right to demonstrate at the Concert Hall and we are going to fight for this right. It is unacceptable to give a stage to a representative of the genocidal Israeli army. This normalises genocide in the guise of culture. This is not a legal or political question, it is fundamentally a moral question posed to the whole Dutch society. We want to be able to express our objection and make it visible and impactful. This is usually the purpose of a protest. The pavement in front of the Concert Hall is a public and freely accessible place and we insist to protest there.”  

Laura Bakker from the Amsterdam Palestina Coaltion added: “The real scandal is that Shai is being welcomed here, yet protests against him are being banned. A city that lets CIDI dictate who speaks and who remains silent is failing its own values.“  

Zamzam Al-Baz, legal officer at the ELSC, concludes: “This issue transcends one isolated protest. At its core, it is a defence of the solidarity movement against systematic attempts to silence and marginalise it, to protect war criminals. No one should be fighting in court for the right to take a moral stand, to refuse their city as a platform for those who perpetuate genocide.” 

The performance of the Chief Military Cantor was cancelled last month, however after intervention and pressure from the Israeli ministry of Diaspora Affairs and Zionist lobby groups in the Netherlands, his performance was reinstated. This is yet another example of how Zionist lobby groups are meddling with European internal affairs.
