ELSC takes legal action against ITV on behalf of Nadia Sawalha

The European Legal Support Center (ELSC) has written to ITV on behalf of broadcaster and presenter Nadia Sawalha, alleging discrimination under the Equality Act 2010 after she was removed from Loose Women following her public support for Palestine and opposition to Israel’s genocide in Gaza. 

Nadia, who has been one of Loose Women‘s most popular presenters for more than two decades, was taken off air after coordinated complaints and media pressure from Zionist groups relating to her social media posts. ITV stated that it was “not making a judgment” about Nadia’s views but confirmed that complaints and press enquiries about her posts formed the basis of its decision. 

In our pre-action letter, we allege that ITV subjected Nadia to direct discrimination, indirect discrimination and harassment because of her protected philosophical beliefs, namely her anti-Zionist beliefs, which are protected under the Equality Act 2010. We argue that Nadia was treated less favourably than other ITV presenters who faced significant public complaints, raising serious concerns about equality in the workplace, and the treatment of those who speak out for Palestinian rights. 

Nadia is calling on ITV to apologise and provide assurances that she will not be removed from future programmes because of her lawful speech on Palestine . ELSC have requested disclosure of the documents and complaints relied upon in ITV’s decision-making. 

Alongside this legal action, a public petition has been launched to demonstrate that thousands of people stand with Nadia and against the repression of Palestine solidarity.
