{"id":3813,"date":"2024-09-16T15:16:57","date_gmt":"2024-09-16T13:16:57","guid":{"rendered":"\/?p=3813"},"modified":"2025-04-14T01:40:16","modified_gmt":"2025-04-13T23:40:16","slug":"advocacy-officer-strategic-litigation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/elsc.support\/nl\/advocacy-officer-strategic-litigation\/","title":{"rendered":"Call for Applications: Advocacy Officer &#8211; Strategic Litigation\u00a0"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"wp-block-group is-layout-constrained wp-block-group-is-layout-constrained\">\n<p class=\"has-small-font-size\"><strong><br><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"block-bb7777f0-fb05-4529-9888-c51716974197\"><strong>The European Legal Support Center (ELSC) is seeking an Advocacy Officer &#8211; Strategic Litigation.<\/strong>\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-small-font-size\"><strong>Title:<\/strong>\u00a0Advocacy Officer &#8211; Strategic litigation<br><strong>Location:<\/strong>\u00a0Europe<br><strong>Reports to:<\/strong>\u00a0Chief of Advocacy and Communications<br><strong>Contract Type:<\/strong> Full-time, with flexible working, contract offer to be negotiated\u00a0<br><strong>Deadline to apply<\/strong>: 1 October 2024<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>MAIN PURPOSE OF THE ROLE\u202f<\/strong>\u202f&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As the Advocacy &amp; Communications Officer for our strategic litigation teams &#8211; EMPOWER and DEF\/DER, you will be part of the Advocacy &amp; Communication Team and develop public outreach on strategic litigation cases pertaining to our <a href=\"https:\/\/elsc.support\/nl\/resources\/the-defunding-of-palestinian-organisations-and-their-allies-a-tactic-to-suppress-palestinian-voices-and-shield-israel-from-accountability-faq\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">de-funding<\/a> and de-risking work (Palestinian and European organisations or individuals facing the suspension or cutting of funding, and facing bank de-risking, i.e. the restrictions on their bank accounts, transfers etc.), and develop advocacy campaigns for cases aiming to hold private and public actors accountable for their complicity with international law violations in Palestine (for instance our <a href=\"https:\/\/elsc.support\/nl\/news\/booking-com-sued-for-laundering-profits-from-israeli-war-crimes-in-palestine\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">case against Booking.com<\/a>). You will engage in public outreach; build campaigns to boost specific legal cases; get media coverage to achieve visibility and narrative change; make sure our victories are visible; grow and mobilise our network of supporters; build coalitions and establish relationships with relevant organisations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>REQUIRED EXPERIENCE\u202f\u202f &amp; QUALIFICATIONS&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Experience with campaigning, involvement in activist groups, grassroots or non-profit organisations, in particular with Palestine solidarity groups and \/ or other anti-colonial and anti-racist groups&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Experience in convening and driving coalitions and networks and building relationships.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Demonstrated commitment to social justice and human rights, in particular the rights of the Palestinian people and the intersectional struggles connected to the Palestinian struggle for liberation.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>REQUIRED SKILLS &amp; ABILITIES\u202f\u202f <\/strong>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Basic knowledge of legal systems&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Demonstrated skills in communications and advocacy work.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Proficiency in English with excellent written and spoken communication skills. English is the working language of the ELSC.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Good understanding and knowledge of the political and human rights situation in Palestine.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Teamwork skills and flexibility, ability to manage time and competing priorities, according to the current demands of the organisation.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Highly organised, strong attention to detail, driven, can work independently without direction.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Ability to prioritise tasks and manage a busy workload.\u202f&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Commitment to anti-racism and anti-discriminatory practice and equal opportunities.\u202f&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Willingness to travel and work occasional unsocial hours as required.\u202f&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>To be flexible within the broad remit of the post.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS&nbsp; <\/strong>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Graduate in International Relations, Political Science, Communications, Journalism, Law, Sociology or other relevant fields.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Master\u2019s Degree in a related field.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Proficiency in Arabic.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Experience with web development, graphic design, social media management or other digital communications experience and skills.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>MAIN DUTIES AND TASKS &#8211; Advocacy &amp; Communication Officer &#8211; <\/strong><strong>Strategic litigation<\/strong><strong>&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>In coordination with the Advocacy and Communication Team, develop and implement public outreach campaigns strategies, social media and media outreach, building and coordinating partners coalition, coordinating with the legal team etc.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Maintain and expand our network of support around our Strategic Litigation cases through maintaining effective communication with activists and partner organisations.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Organise and facilitate in-person events and\/or workshops with activists, academics, students and lawyers.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Draft and publish case summaries\/updates on the ELSC website, in coordination with the relevant legal officers for De-funding\/ De-risking and Empower.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Support the Digital Communications Officer to design and monitor relevant social media content: text, visuals and potential videos\/reels.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Represent the ELSC in public events and interviews.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Maintain and expand the ELSC network of journalists and media outlets.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Maintain contact lists.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Assist with content production for the ELSC monthly Newsletter.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Salary<\/strong>&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>\u20ac36,000 &#8211; 38,000 with progression up the scale after each annual review&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>750 EURO available to support staff well-being&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Assistance with home office equipment&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>How to Apply:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Applications (CV and cover letter) should be sent to <em>application@elsc.support<\/em> including the subject line <strong>\u2018Advocacy Officer Strategic Litigation\u2019<\/strong>.\u00a0Applications are due by 09:00 CET 1 Oct 2024.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>ELSC is hiring an Advocacy Officer to support public outreach on strategic litigation cases, including defunding, de-risking, and corporate complicity.
