In the past month, we\u2019ve fought some crucial battles and secured a number of legal victories, which we bring to you in this month\u2019s newsletter, along with some useful resources to continue mobilising for Palestine.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

CASE UPDATES<\/strong><\/h1>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

ATTEMPTED CRIMINALISATION OF THE SLOGAN ‘PALESTINE WILL BE FREE, FROM THE RIVER TO THE SEA’ IN GERMANY:<\/h2>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

On the 22nd of\u00a0August 2024, activist Daria was supposed to be facing her first hearing at the Berlin court Amtsgericht Tiergarten. She is accused of \u2018circulation of symbols of unconstitutional and terrorist organisations\u2019 (\u00a7 86 StGB) for chanting the slogan ‘Palestine will be free from the river to the sea’\u00a0at a demonstration in early March 2024.\u00a0Her case does not stand in isolation.<\/strong>Rather, it is one of many that are challenging the attempted criminalisation of the slogan \u2018Palestine will be free, from the river to the sea\u2019\u00a0by German authorities. This attempt clearly constitutes a political move to control and repress the Palestine solidarity movement in Germany as a whole.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

The Berlin court cancelled Daria\u2019s trial\u00a0at the last minute.\u00a0Hundreds of people had gathered in front of the courthouse in solidarity<\/strong>. After addressing the crowd with a speech, Daria was brutally arrested by the Berlin police. There were approximately a dozen arrests in total.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

The hearing has now been postponed to November 11th.\u00a0We stand undeterred and hope that many will join the hearing again in support.<\/strong>Read more about it in\u00a0Nadija\u2019s interview with Left Berlin<\/a><\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

COURT VICTORY AGAINST CORPORATE COMPLICITY IN GERMANY’S AUTHORITARIANISM<\/strong><\/h2>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

In June 2024, the Berlin Appellate Court ruled that the freezing and cancellation of the association\u00a0J\u00fcdische Stimme f\u00fcr gerechten Frieden in Nahost \u2013 EJJP Deutschland e. V. \/ Jewish Voice for Just Peace in the Middle East \u2013 EJJP<\/a>‘s bank account by the partly state-owned bank Berliner Sparkasse\u00a0was illegal<\/strong><\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

DIRECTOR OF AL-HAQ SHAWAN JABARIN HOLDS ITALIAN NEWSPAPER CORRIERE DELLA SERA ACCOUNTABLE FOR DEFAMING HIM<\/h2>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Shawan Jabarin, General Director of Al-Haq, with the support of the ELSC, was able to hold Italian newspaper Corriere della Sera accountable for defaming him three years ago, following\u00a0Israel’s targeted designation<\/a>\u00a0of six Plaestinian NGOs\u00a0as ‘terror organisations’, a tactic Israel systematically applies to silence, control, and oppress Palestinian voices. The newspaper has now retracted its racist statement and paid around 15,000 euros in compensation to Mr. Jabarin.\u00a0#StandWithThe6<\/strong> READ OUR STATEMENT HERE<\/em><\/a><\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

PUSHING BACK AGAINST THE DISMISSAL OF RECTOR STELLA MARIS BY ST ANDREWS UNIVERSITY:<\/h2>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

‘It is clear that I have been removed from university court because I called for an end to Israel\u2019s war crimes against Palestinians, and I will not apologise for doing so’,\u00a0Stella Maris said following her dismissal by St Andrews University<\/strong><\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

ALL CHARGES AGAINST AMIRA ABDELHAMID, AN INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS LECTURER AT THE UNIVERSITY OF PORTSMOUTH, DROPPED<\/h2>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Her employer had suspended Abdelhamid, referring\u00a0her to Prevent for a series of posts on X related to October 7th,\u00a0which led to counterterrorism police arresting her and raiding her home, confiscating all her devices, a protest sign that had ‘Palestine’ written in Arabic, any notebook with ‘foreign writing’ and ‘my powder eyeliner to test it in the lab because they thought it was gun powder’, said Amira.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

It\u2019s been a few months since we filed our criminal complaint against Booking.com. In the meantime, the International Court of Justice issued an\u00a0Advisory Opinion<\/a>\u00a0finding that Israel\u2019s occupation and annexation of Palestinian territory is \u2018unlawful\u2019. NO MORE WEAPONS FOR GENOCIDE: FURTHER LEGAL ACTION AGAINST GERMANY\u2019S WAR WEAPONS DELIVERIES TO ISRAEL\u00a0<\/h2>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

In June 2024, the Administrative Court of Berlin dismissed our urgent appeal and concluded that no ban on exports of war weapons would be necessary, assuming that the German government is acting in accordance with international law.\u00a0But we will not stop here and are planning further legal action!<\/strong><\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n
