With the support of the European Legal Support Center, she is taking alla Scala to court.\u00a0<br><br>As Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, Milan Mayor Beppe Sala, and a delegation from the Israeli Finance Ministry, attended a closed performance on May 4, hosted by the Asian Development Bank, Jasmine stood up and shouted two words: <strong>\u201cFree Palestine.\u201d<\/strong>\u00a0<br><br>She was immediately escorted out by the police. A couple of weeks later, she received an email from her employer terminating her contract, citing a &#8220;violation of employment obligations&#8221; and failure to maintain &#8220;neutrality&#8221; during the event.\u00a0<br><br>Her firing, however, reveals a broader pattern of repression. As <a href=\"https:\/\/www.index-of-repression.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">documented<\/a> by our years of monitoring, workers across Europe and Britain \u2014 and especially those voicing solidarity with Palestine \u2014 face retaliation for their speech. The decision by alla Scala theater in Milan, one of Europe\u2019s most iconic cultural institutions, to dismiss a worker for a statement signals yest another dangerous escalation in the crackdown on dissent.\u00a0<br>Represented by the CUB, <strong>Confederazione Unitaria di Base<\/strong>, the independent grassroots union, and supported by the European Legal Support Center, Jasmine has filed a lawsuit against Teatro alla Scala for unlawful dismissal and violation of her fundamental rights. The <strong>first court hearing is scheduled for September 2025<\/strong>.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>Kiran Chaudhuri, Senior Legal Officer at ELSC said: <em>\u201cThis is not an isolated case \u2014 it reflects a broader climate of repression that has taken root in Italy and across Europe. Raising your voice for Palestine and denouncing European complicity should not cost you your job. As ELSC, we will support Jasmine\u2019s case to ensure that such violations do not happen again. Due settimane dopo ha ricevuto un\u2019e-mail dal teatro che comunicava il licenziamento per \u201cviolazione delle mansioni lavorative\u201d e per non aver mantenuto la \u201cneutralit\u00e0\u201d richiesta dal ruolo.\u00a0<br><br>Questo licenziamento rivela un problema pi\u00f9 ampio di repressione. Come dimostrano i centinaia di casi da noi seguiti, lavoratrici e lavoratori in Europa e nel Regno Unito subiscono ritorsioni per il proprio pensiero politico. La decisione del Teatro alla Scala, una delle istituzioni culturali pi\u00f9 iconiche d\u2019Europa, rappresenta un grave segnale di escalation nella repressione del dissenso.\u00a0<br><br>Rappresentata dal sindacato di base\u202f<strong>CUB (Confederazione Unitaria di Base)<\/strong>\u202fe sostenuta dall\u2019<strong>European Legal Support Center<\/strong>, Jasmine ha avviato una causa per licenziamento illegittimo e violazione dei suoi diritti fondamentali.\u00a0La prima udienza \u00e8 fissata per\u202f<strong>settembre 2025<\/strong>.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201cQuesto non \u00e8 un caso isolato \u2014 riflette un clima repressivo sempre pi\u00f9 diffuso in Italia e in Europa. Alzare la voce per la Palestina e denunciare la complicit\u00e0 europea non dovrebbe costare il lavoro. Come\u202f<strong>ELSC<\/strong>, sosteniamo Jasmine affinch\u00e9 simili violazioni non si ripetano.
